We Are Your Friends starring Zac Efron is a vacuous film set in the world of DJ-ing and EDM. If you have to look up the full form of EDM, you’re already too old for this movie. The real problem, however, isn’t that the film alienates anyone who was born before the iPod was invented, but that its characters never feel even remotely authentic or interesting. I’m going with two out of five for We Are Your Friends. Cole claims to know how to manipulate the music in a way that it’ll seize your body and shut your mind off to everything else around you. You wait and wait, but alas, that never happens.

Let's start with what We Are Your Friends is not about, rather than what it is about. Despite slick visuals and stylish montages, this is not a go-to guide on how to become a star deejay. This story is far too simplistic, the characters unevenly explained and too many corners are cut.It really is more about our protagonist, Cole, feeling torn between loyalties towards his old buddies versus his own irrepressible ambitions for stage stardom. Simply put, you'll watch it if you're big fan of Efron or Ratajkowski.

While the bass pulsates with electric fervor the dramatics just fizzles into a lot of confusion. Character dynamics are unremarkable while performances just don't have the bite to get you involved. And the Bro-coterie angle( Cole's friends who tag along) is quite tiresome to say the least. Wes Bentley and Emily Ratajkowski make their presence felt, though!
